Thank you for considering a charitable gift to the Wausau Curling Club. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is teaching and promoting the sport of curling in the Wausau area.

Curling has a long history in Wausau, and our club has existed well over 100 years. Thousands of our residents, including young people and students, senior citizens, the wheelchair-bound and others have enjoyed the physical activity and social camaraderie that curling offers during our cold winter months. Our Curling Center, opened in 2012, is among the finest and the largest privately owned curling center in the United States.

Charitable contributions and gifts to the Wausau Curling Club help us conduct learn-to-curl sessions for area residents, teach young curlers how to play the sport, reach out to seniors and the wheelchair bound to interest and engage them in curling; and to maintain our facilities, including the expensive special equipment needed for our critical ice surface.

There are many ways to support the Wausau Curling Club.

  • Cash contributions are always welcome and can be designated for particular projects or the general fund.
  • Gifts may be made in memory of a loved one or to honor a special friend.
  • You may be able to partner with your employer to increase the value of your gift in a Matching Gifts Program.
  • Consider including the Wausau Curling Club in your estate plans and join a very special group of donors who have the vision and foresight to sustain the future of curling in our community.

Wausau Curling Club Volunteer Policy-- UPDATED 9-21-22

Every member of the Wausau Curling Club is obligated to volunteer a minimum of ten (10) hours in support of the club each fiscal year (May through April). Those members unwilling or unable to volunteer ten (10) hours shall pay at the time of registration a nonrefundable fee of $150 to be relieved of their volunteer obligation.

For many years the Wausau Curling Club has benefitted greatly from having members volunteer their time to support their club. Although members have the option to pay the additional $150 fee, the club’s interests are best served through strong volunteerism. Please make every effort to volunteer rather than pay the additional fee.

www.signupgenius.com is the official method of communicating and recording volunteer hours for the Wausau Curling Club. When registering as a club member each person shall provide a valid email address to be used in Sign-Up Genius. It is the member’s responsibility to maintain access to Sign-Up Genius. The volunteer coordinator should be contacted by November 15 each year to make appropriate arrangements if a member does not have an email address to receive Sign-Up Genius communication.

It is each member’s responsibility to sign up for volunteer opportunities. Each member is also responsible to remove her/his name from Sign-Up Genius prior to the event if the member is not able to fulfill a scheduled volunteer shift.

Members who do not complete a season due to a medical condition, moving, membership termination, or other viable reason may be exempt from the ten (10) hour volunteer requirement. Requests for exemption must be submitted to the volunteer coordinator for review.

Any member who does not pay the nonrefundable $150 opt-out fee at registration and does not complete the entire ten (10) hours of volunteer time will be assessed $150 at the end of the fiscal year. The fee will not be pro-rated based on the number of volunteer hours actually completed. Members who have an outstanding fee balance when registering for membership the following year shall be assessed an additional $25 penalty.

Volunteer hours are to be completed by each member rather than by anyone else. Members may not share with, or transfer volunteer hours to, any other member.

Should an event or volunteer opportunity be cancelled a member will be credited with scheduled volunteer time only if the event or opportunity is cancelled less than twenty-four (24) hours in advance of the scheduled volunteer start time. If an event or volunteer opportunity is cancelled more than twenty-four (24) hours prior to the scheduled volunteer start time the volunteering member will be notified by email of the cancellation and the volunteer hours will not be credited to the member.

Social members, high school coaches, paid members of the Ice Committee, and junior members under the age of 16 as of November 1 of each year shall be exempt from the ten (10) hour volunteer requirement. Each high school head coach is to provide to the volunteer coordinator the name(s) of other members of their respective staff for exemption consideration. Dues paying lifetime members are not exempt from the volunteer requirement.

Volunteer hours that are performed outside of Sign-Up Genius (ie, league chairpersons, members of the board of directors, board committee members, volunteer coordinator, kitchen manager, keys manager, bar and beverage coordinators, equipment sales, lawn care, snow removal, reverse raffle, etc.) shall be submitted to the volunteer coordinator for approval prior to April 1 of each year.

Raffle or other prize donations are not credited against volunteer hours. Volunteer hours are not financially compensated. Fully prepared, ready to eat food donated for bonspiels or other club events and requested within Sign-Up Genius shall qualify for volunteer time subject to qualifications established by the volunteer coordinator.

High school sponsored events (ie, Tietge Bonspiel and State High School Championships) are organized, scheduled, and staffed by the high school teams and their boosters. The Wausau Curling Club normally does not provide volunteers for these events. Wausau Curling Club Members volunteering for the high school sponsored events will be credited for volunteer hours if Coaches request member volunteers for those events to appear within Sign-Up Genius.
